After the harsh and cold winter days, both adults and children wait for the warm summer days to start their fun. Summer vacation, beach days, family barbeques, pool parties, and picnics at the park are just some of the many fun items for the summer. However, it is also important to remember that summer is the time when most accidents take place.

You should especially take care of your safety measures if you have children. They can easily hurt themselves while playing outside or swimming in the pool. A TBI can severely affect a child’s life. Make sure they learn the tips in this blog by heart. That being said, if you or your loved one is hurt, talk to someone from the High Stakes Injury Law today.

Summer tips to prevent a traumatic brain injury

    1. Use helmets.

It is important for parents to help their children learn the importance of wearing helmets from a young age. Starting from skating and biking, these children will grow up to know the importance of wearing helmets and seatbelts while riding motor vehicles. Research shows that riding while wearing head protection reduces the risk of an injury by one-third.

In addition to helmets, prohibit your children from riding in unknown neighborhoods or at night. Also, teach them about traffic signs and what they mean.

    1. Wear a life jacket.

Summer is a time when people are likely to go to the pool, ocean, lake, etc., for swimming. While all of these are great activities to enjoy the summer, it is important to wear safety gear, such as a life jacket, to protect yourself from a life-threatening accident. This is especially important during watersports, where you can keep your head over water. A life jacket reduces the chances of accidental drowning.

    1. Supervise children on playgrounds.

If you have young kids, you may take them to the park to play. However, do not just leave them unattended while you are there, or do not go back home after dropping them off. Not all equipment in the park is always safe for children. In fact, park accidents amount to 200,000 emergency room visits every year. You can avoid an accident by keeping an eye on them and checking the equipment before letting them play.

    1. Buckle up in the car.

Road trips are common in the summer, but so are accidents. When you drive, make sure you, as well as the other people in the car, are wearing their seatbelts. If you have small children or toddlers, make sure they have special baby seats. Buckling up can save you from a TBI.

If you or your child was injured in an accident caused by someone else, hire an attorney today!
